Tips from RockIt Mom:
1. GREEN- Here are some ideas for summertime to think more green; Reduce the amount of plastic utensils you throw away by switching to reusable utensils. Go reusable and stop spedning money on paper plates, paper cups and disposable water bottles. Reduce trash by composting your veggies. Reduce the amount of time and energy spent (not to mention your own comfort level) by cooking two meals at once in the oven. Reduce the strain on your freezer by keeping it full — it runs more efficiently. Take your reusable bag use to the next level with reusable produce bags. Reduce the amount of contaminants and pollutants that head into the ocean by taking everything with you when you got to beach, and by properly disposing of hazardous materials.
2a. HEALTH-Log Your Food! A study at the Center for Health Research determined that keeping a food diary can double your weight loss and lead to healthier food choices. WRITE IT OUT DAILY – EVERY BITE, LICK AND TASTE!!
2b. HEALTH-Change your exercises. Try something new like Yoga, Zumba, Spin, Bootcamp, TRX or Kickboxing. Yes, you may look a little crazy trying to get into the groove, but give yourself at least 4-5 classes before you give up. Remember it takes at least 3 weeks of repeated activity to change your habits. These classes can change your flexibility, reduce chronic pain, lower anxiety and stress levels. Not to mention your self-esteem when you master this new activity. Recruit a friend. You can conqure this together!
3. RECIPE- Break out of the mold of the same fat-free dressing, the balsamic spritzer and lemon juice. Here are some homemade easy lowfat dressings.
Orange Poppy Seed Dressing; 1/2 cup plain yogurt, 1/4 cup oj concentrate, 2 Tbsp poppy seeds, 1 Tbsp honey.
Avocado Oil & Vinegar Dressing; 1/4 avocado oil, 1 Tbsp rice vinegar, 1 Tbsp honey, Juice of 1 lemon, 1/4 tsp sea salt.
Flaxseed Oil Dressing; 3/4 cup flaxseed oil, 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard, 1/2 tsp. maple syrup, 1/2 tsp crushed garlic, 1/2 tsp oregano.
Honey Dijon Dressing; 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt, 1 1/2 Tbsp Dijon mustard, 2 Tbsp honey, 1 tsp balsamic vinegar, ground pepper to taste.
After a fabulous family weekend, celebrating our anniversary, enjoying amazing Southern California weather and hanging with great friends, RockIt Mom is ecstatic that summer is on the horizon.
