Tips from RockIt Mom:

1. GREEN - Are you getting ready for a spectacular summer vacation?  Asking yourself “How do I go green while traveling?”  Here are some ideas to make your hotel stay a little greener, try out the following:

•Reuse your towels. If you’re staying in a hotel more than one night, hanging your towel back on the rack universally means “I’ll use it again.”  That way, you’ll be conserving extra water and energy from washing an extra towel.

•Conserve extra water by limiting your shower time.

•Opt out of receiving a newspaper if possible. Save a tree.

•Get paperless billing for your hotel stay. You can often avoid getting a bill if you use express checkout.

•Take the stairs. If you’re able, spare some electricity and walk the stairs. It’s good for you!

•Don’t take all of the toiletries in the room unless you really need them. Besides, the quality of the hotel toiletries isn’t something that you’ll want to remember when you get home!

•Bring your own food. Vending machine snacks are full of excessive packaging, not to mention they’re notoriously unhealthy. Pack up snacks in reusable containers of various sizes and you’ll be eating better, saving money, and doing a good green deed by avoiding all of that packaging.

•Turn down the AC or heat in your room. Crack a window if possible and get some fresh air! Turn down thermostat just a few degrees in the cold weather and you’ll sleep more comfortably and save energy.

•Don’t have the bedding changed unless necessary. One room’s hotel bedding can often take up one normal sized washing machine!

•Instead of using disposable styrofoam coffee or water cups, bring your own reusable mug or plastic cup. It tastes better that way anyway.

2. HEALTH7 Feel-Fab Tips to Stay Healthy

•To keep the skin supple, eat healthy fats – like olive oil and avocados.

•Yoga makes you breath and stretch, build strength and makes the skin look amazing.

•Cooking is a form of great relaxation.  Make meals with brown rice and fresh veggies.

•Protect against free radical damage – topical retinoids like tretinoin, tazarotene or SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic are key.

•All around Pick Me Up is glitter!  Glitter improves your mood.  Use glitter makeup or glitter lotion.

•Resveratrol supplements, although new, have good antiaging benefits.

•Lemon trees in every room give off oxygen and clean up carbon dioxide.  Bonus: the smell is great for relaxation and to ward off hunger.

3. RECIPE- Breakfast Options for a Quick Morning AND Under 250 Calories AND Low Fat.

Smoked Salmon and a Bagel (Thomas Bagel Thins).  Smear 1 tblsp of fat-free cream cheese; top with 1.5 oz of smoked salmon, adding black pepper, herbs, sliced onions and squire of lemon juice.

Hearty Lean Eggs and Sausage. Scramble 1/2 cup of liquid egg whites (approx. 3 egg whites) in a skillet coated in non-stick spray. Remove and top with salsa.  Cook 1 turkey sausage ling.  Serve eggs and sausage with 2 med. melon slices.

Blueberry and Almond Oatmeal. Cook 1 pkg of plain instant oatmeal according to directions. Stir in 1 tsp. ground flaxseed, 1 tblsp. chopped almonds, and 1/4 cup fresh blueberries.

***All the experts are chanting about BLUEBERRIES, BLUEBERRIES, BLUEBERRIES.  They are – this week – the anthoxyanins/antioxidants fruit to eat all day.  Eat them with oatmeal, yogurt, other berries, in salads, over ice cream ,cereal and any other way you can get them.  Also have heard to eat them freshly washed with fresh mint.  You be the judge and let us know if you have any other ways to get your blueberries!

Would love to hear from you on any ideas, suggestions, reviews and comments.  Love, love, love to hear all of them!  Remember to treat yourself daily, nothing huge.  A latte’, time to sit and enjoy the breeze, your favorite music as loud as it can go or even a shower when all phones are turned off!!

I make a breakfast shake with mixed berries from Costco (blueberries, raspberries and Marion berries) and also put frozen blueberries in my yogurt. Great ways to get in extra blueberries!
