Weekly Tips for June 7, 2011

Posted on 05. Jun, 2011 by in Uncategorized

If your babes are not already out of school, I am sure they are counting down the days.  RockIt Mom has finished and posted the “suggested” Summer Camps 2011.  Look for the Summer Fun Ideas coming soon. This list will include fun suggestions to do with the kiddos that are inexpensive and fun for all ages.  The ideas will be “Southern California” influenced but hopefully will inspire ideas for your area.    Remember Father’s Day is fast approaching.  Start working on those crafts for Dad.  One favorite it to take a picture of the kids, buy a wooden frame from craft store and cover it in buttons.  Then put “Cute as a Button” on the frame or picture.

NICE

Take the secretary of your child’s school a nice basket of muffins or flowers from your garden.  Tell her/him “Thank you for all your hard work this year.” They put in so much time and effort for the school to run smoothly, this small token will go a long way.

GREEN/HEALTH

There’s no need to buy costly household products that will strain your budget and clutter your cupboards. For your home improvement and cleaning projects, use items you already own as easy alternatives, and save big in the process!

Wall Filler: You can use white toothpaste to fill in errant holes in your walls. As long as the walls are painted white, the toothpaste will blend right in.

Scuff Remover: To get rid of scuff marks, rub the inside of a banana peel over silverware, leather shoes and leather furniture. Wipe with a soft cloth. Be sure to test on a small, inconspicuous section first.

Hardwater Stain Remover: To get rid of lime buildup, make a paste of 1 teaspoon vinegar and 2 tablespoons salt. Apply to sink fixtures and rub with a cloth.

Stovetop Protectant: Rub a thin veneer of car wax on your stovetop, then wipe it off. The wax allows future cooking spills to lift off more easily.

Enamel Repair Paint:  Use correction fluid (like White-Out) to cover nicks and chips on white enamel kitchen appliances like ranges and mixers.

Washing Machine Cleaner:  Using the warm water setting, fill the basin and add 2 cups white vinegar. Let stand for an hour, then run the cycle as usual.

Mirror Cleaner:  Clean a bathroom mirror with shaving cream (the old-fashioned white kind, not a gel variety), then wipe with a soft cloth. This tip also helps keep the mirror fog-free after showers.

Anitbacterial Bathroom Cleaner:  To kill bathroom germs, spray full-strength vinegar around the sink and tub. Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

Cord Organizer:  Store cords tangle-free by winding each one back and forth, then inserting it into an empty toilet paper tube.

FOOD:Gwyneth Paltrow’s Fudgy Chocolate Brownies.

Lots of information this week.  Take it one step at a time. If it gets to be too much, take a step away. Go for a walk, breathe, give yourself a time out, take a yoga class.  Life is going to change soon with the summertime fun, take time for you.  All you need is 10 minutes!  Take it one step …. at ….. a …. time.
