Summer may have been over for you when the kids went back to school, but there are still some activities and family fun you can squeeze in. Our family has been very fortunate to be invited to go waterskiing and tubing at two different lakes and 4×4 in the Mojave Desert. It is truly a A-Ha parent moment to watch your babies get behind a ski boat and be taken away. Or jump into a Jeep and take off over the mountains and climb rocks. You want these moments so you can watch them grow and at the same time, grab them – wrap them in their favorite blankie and cuddle them tight! Summer 2011 is quickly coming to a close, and we are not ready for it to be over. As we are getting ready for back to school, we wanted to know “What are you doing?”  Most moms did their back to school clothes shopping, new lunchboxes, new backpack and shoes, along with massive school supplies in early August.  When did RockIt Mom get those chores done? Still waiting for the time to do it!  We wanted to get the most of our vacation as we could, so that required ignoring the shopping.  Tonight, we were out of milk and lunchbox food, so that required grocery shopping at 9pm, the night before school! Oh well, we had lots of fun at the pool, soccer, minature golf, bike riding and beach.   Always trying to put 10 lbs of fun in a 5 lbs bag. (more…)

What?! Soup in August? Yes, here is a great summer recipe.  It can get cool at night, especially on the West Coast.  Try it out or save it for when your area cools down.

This quick, fiber-packed soup is a terrific way to use fresh corn. Add a slight kick with a sprinkle of Monterey Jack cheese with jalapeno peppers just before serving. (more…)

Are your kiddos doing lots of camps this summer or just hanging at home?  Surf camp starts tomorrow for one kid and the other is just hanging all summer. It is kind of fun.  We shall see come the end of  July.  Fireworks are coming for Independence Day — aka July 4. Best bets are county fairs, smaller cities, Seaworld, Legoland, Disney anything, and military museums.  Here is a website that will give you local displays based upon your zip code.

Summer is a-l-m-o-s-t here! What are your plans? Staycations, visiting family, beach, lakes, camping? Working on the Annual Fun for Kids report, however RockIt Muffin and RockIt Bubba have decided to not to do camps this summer, so research is limited. Hopefully, it will spur ideas in your local community.
