February 2012 is Lifestyle Changes to Your Snacks.

We have been talking all year – okay January 2012 – about small lifestyle changes because 2012 is our year to get in gear! Little changes make a big difference in the long run. As opposed to strict denial of everything which is ultimately going to lead to going back to your old ways.

This month is lifestyle changes to your snacks. Here is a list to get you started for some healthy snacking options. Remember you should have snacks 2-3 times per day; a morning snack, afternoon snack and optional evening snack.

This list is filled with sizeable options enjoyable enough to devour guilt-free. And while most of these snacks pack a nutritious punch, a few are clearly set out to satisfy that sweet tooth (see #23!). But hey, at 100 calories or less, it’s worth the splurge. (more…)

Not only are the holidays here, but in full swing.  Parties, cookies, sweets, fudge, cocktails, appetizers, caroling, sleigh rides, Christmas lights and shopping! How do you keep your sanity and stress under control? As the Mom in your household, it is your responsibility to keep everyone happy, the house clean, the gifts bought and wrapped, baking and decorating cookies, and keeping the whole family happy and in the spirit! RockIt family had a relaxing long weekend, what a nice change!  Everyone back in school and settling into their routines?  And speaking of school, how do you and your teachers explain 9-11 to your children? The History Channel has a great documentary playing lately which helps explain 9-11 to younger children.  There are artifcats and items at the Smithsonian that young children can relate to (cell phones, briefcases, fireman’s ax). Have you taught your children about 9-11? How are you going to remember it this week? Attending a memorial service? Watching a special? (more…)

Worst Food for that Beach Body

Isn’t it ironic that people who are healthy most of the time, exercise and are super conscious of food throw all of that out the window when they are at the beach.  Last time at the beach we saw a very fit man, reading Men’s Health, drinking regular Coke and a eating a Costco size bag of Doritos. What happened here? Is there a special “zone” that you can eat whatever you want at the beach and nothing happens? I completely understand indulging when the cravings are there.  Wait….oh, I thought I heard Baskin Robbins calling.  (more…)
