Well, almost three weeks into 2012, how are you doing on your “lifestyle changes”? 2012 is the Year to Get in Gear!

We started 2012 with making breakfast healthy and a couple snacks. Are you still on this road with us or do you need to step back reset and begin again.  Based on an incredible insight during a beach run, I was able to develop the new RockIt Mom motivation: There are no failures, only attempts that were not the correct way, so let’s try it again a different way.  Albert Einstein said, “Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” As women, we know — Failure is Not an Option! Let’s try lifestyle changes another way.  Hopefully, these tips will get you started.

Weekly Tips for March 7, 2011

How is March treating you? Like a lion or a lamb? March can be a very stressful, mundane and trying month, so take some time break out of your routine and mix things up a bit.  Instead of drinking coffee, try herbal tea or a tea latte.  Tired of the same cardio routine, mix it up with a jump rope, hula-hoop and some head banging rock music.  Work those legs, while doing dishes or checking out at the store, do calf raises.  Instead of plopping down at the computer, stand and Facebook, instead.  This week’s tips are Nice, Green, (more…)

Metabolism Boosting Morning Sundae

Instead of your usual breakfast, begin your day with this metabolism-boosting sundae to start burning fat in the morning. It’s high in protein and good fats and contains a bit of caffeine from matcha green tea to get your day off to an energized and refreshing start. It may be just what you need to get through your weight-loss plateau.

Ingredients

1/2 cup low-fat Greek yogurt

1 banana

1/2 cup strawberries

Unsweetened coconut, to taste

Ground flaxseed, to desired consistency

Matcha green tea powder, to taste (available at health food stores)

Directions

Combine all ingredients and enjoy.

Tips from RockIt Mom:

1. GREEN – Vacation Energy Saver: Before you leave on vacation – even a weekend getaway – consider turning off your water heater until you return to save energy.  Newer models will heat the water to the set temperature in about an hour upon return.  Or check to see if your heater has a vacation setting. 

2. HEALTH – A “marriage” or pairing of foods and moves are supported by medical testing to help your body reach it’s healing potentials.  Try some of these unions.

Sidestep Skin Cancer: Caffeine + Cardio.  The tests show the caffeine inhibits ATR-1, which prevents the damaged cells from becoming cancer cells. Try a cup of coffee an hour before exercise, as long was you don’t have elevated blood pressure.  The caffeine should increase your endurance and delay fatigue.  Try to get at least 30 min. of some type of cardio per day.
