Summer is a-l-m-o-s-t here! What are your plans? Staycations, visiting family, beach, lakes, camping? Working on the Annual Fun for Kids report, however RockIt Muffin and RockIt Bubba have decided to not to do camps this summer, so research is limited. Hopefully, it will spur ideas in your local community.

Hope all enjoyed their holiday weekend and took a moment to THANK and REMEMBER those in the our armed forces. (more…)

10 Things to do before SUMMER is over!

Posted on 16. Jul, 2010 in Fun

By Meg Grant, Associated Content from Yahoo!

It may seem that summer just arrived, but it will be gone as quickly as it came. Before the end of summer there are some things you should savor and do. After all, before you know it you will be looking at gray skies, dreaming of sunshine and all the things you wished you had done while summer was here.

Visit a Beach

A beach doesn’t have to be at the ocean. You can visit a lake, river, pond — anywhere there’s a body of water. Make sure there’s plenty of sand there so you can take off your shoes or sandals and let the sand seep between your toes. Build a sandcastle. Swim in the water.

Eat a Popsicle

Channel your inner child and eat a Popsicle. While you’re at it, eat three or four — or the whole box. Popsicles are usually pretty low in calories and aren’t much more than frozen fruit juice. Sit outside in the sun, savor your icy treat and don’t worry if sticky juice runs down your arm.

Get a (Natural) Tan

Why spend all that money on fake tans and tanning memberships. It costs too much and you will get a much better looking glow from the real sun. Although you can get too much of a good thing, don’t worry about the sun’s damaging effects — wear sunscreen and just go for that sun-kissed glow.

Catch Fireflies

Fireflies come out in the summer, and they provided you with plenty of great memories as a child. Grab yourself an old mason jar, punch some holes in the lid and catch some fireflies; only set them free after you’ve watched them dance around in your jar.

Have a Water Balloon Fight

Remember those water balloon fights you had as a kid? Life as an adult can be too serious. Loosen up and get your friends (or your kids) together and have a water balloon fight. It will get your heart pumping and give you lots of laughs.

Ride a Tandem Bike

Some of my best memories from my younger years was riding a tandem bike around Mackinaw Island in Northern Michigan. Rent a tandem bike with your best friend, older child, or significant other and ride around. You’ll have plenty of laughs and get great exercise.

Go to Camp

Summer camp isn’t just for kids! Head for the mountains or hills. Rent a cabin and be one with nature for a little while. Don’t forget to wear plenty of bug spray and enjoy all nature has to offer.

Host a Bonfire

Bonfires bring lots of great memories. Tell your best ghost stories. Roast hot dogs for dinner and make sure that everyone has a S’More or two (or five.) This can be at the campground or you can have your very own bonfire in your back yard — but be sure to check with your local ordinances and get the proper permits so you don’t end up having to pay a fine!

Make Arts and Crafts

Whether you have children or you just want to unleash your own inner creativity, take a note from your summer camp days and make some arts and crafts. Keep your masterpieces and give them as Christmas gifts or just out-of-the-blue gifts — or use them to decorate your home.

And last, but certainly not least…

Fall in Love

Summer love was always something to remember. Whether you rekindle the spark with your significant other, vow to have a summer fling, or just fall in love with yourself, summer is the perfect time to fall in love. If you can’t figure out how to make this resolve, read a good classic love story or watch a sappy old movie such as “Splendor in the Grass” or “Love Story.”

Don’t let summer pass you by without doing these ten things. Life’s too short and as adults sometimes we forget about the simple things that made life so magical as a child. Don’t let that happen to you.

You will need some type of cardio machine (elliptical, treadmill or stationary bike).   These are more forgiving surfaces so as to avoid injuries and strains.
