Breakfast Banana Split

An amazing idea for a Breakfast Banana Split (without the ice cream of course), and now we are tempted to make this every morning. For a twist on the old classic just replace the ice cream with Greek yogurt and drizzle warm jam over it instead of chocolate sauce then add some berries and sliced almonds and enjoy!

 

Every Morning is a New Chance to get Healthy

A friend recently said she needs one week of eating healthy and working out and she will be on track. That is a great achievable goal, but it is definitely going to take more than one week.  Studies show, most people are excited and dedicated to a new “healthy lifestyle” Monday to Wednesday. Then comes Thursday, getting closer to the weekend, Friday with donuts at the office and happy hour. Once the weekend hits, all healthy ideas are out the window. That “one week” is really only about 3 days and it keeps re-starting every Monday. So, in reality you need more than a week. We all know you can’t change everything at once.  Little modifications which once they become habit, then onto the next modification. Weekly Tips for June 27, 2011

Are your kiddos doing lots of camps this summer or just hanging at home?  Surf camp starts tomorrow for one kid and the other is just hanging all summer. It is kind of fun.  We shall see come the end of  July.  Fireworks are coming for Independence Day — aka July 4. Best bets are county fairs, smaller cities, Seaworld, Legoland, Disney anything, and military museums.  Here is a website that will give you local displays based upon your zip code.

Restore, Repair and Romantic Smoothie

Chocolate Berry Smoothie

1 cup sliced fresh strawberries or raspberries

1 med. banana, peeled (obviously?)

1/2 cup non fat milk (suggestion: plain Almond Milk)

1 scop chocolate-flavored whey protein powder

1/2 cup of ice

Add berries, banana and milk to blender; process for 30 seconds or until completely blended. Add protein powder; blend for 15 seconds. Add ice and blend until smooth. Serve immediately to your Valentine/Love!

305 cal.; 1 g fat; total carbs 47 g; 422 mg of potassium.

**This has enough potassium to restore nutrients loss dur to sweat and active muscle contractions. Also helps to control blood pressure and aiding in prevention of hypertension-related diseases.

**The combination of the whey protein powder and milk builds strong bones and muscles.

**Berries aid recovery and restore the body’s storage of glyceogen which is depleted during strenuous exercise.
