It’s Museum Month!

During the entire month of February 2010, you can pick up a FREE Museum Month Pass at Macy’s to receive half-off admission at 39 San Diego County museums all month long. Guests with a pass may bring up to three people with them to any participating museum to receive half-off, too.

The Three Wishes

When: February 17th-21st

Where: Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theater

What: They could have had it all, riches, a castle, luxury, but the old maid and his wife foolishly waste three wishes granted them by a fairy. Extra Plus: A little boy recites the poem, A Brave Boy and a Dragon, in this delightful hand puppet show.

Road to Healthy Meals in Our Schools

When: Thursday, February 18th 6:30-8 p.m.

Where: San Diego Natural History Museum

What: Co-presented by Whole Foods Market and Slow Food Urban San Diego. Meet the leader of the school-lunch revolution, Chef Ann Cooper, a.k.a. “The Renegade Lunch Lady” and author of Lunch Lessons: Changing the Way We Feed Our Children. Chef Ann is on a mission to ensure that every child in America receives healthy, delicious food every day in school. Hear her thoughts on how San Diego schools can make simple yet significant changes to improve lunch programs. Pre-lecture reception with local food artisans and community food groups 6–6:30.

 San Diego Chinese New Year Fair

When: February 20th and 21st, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: San Diego Chinese Historical Museum

What: The two-day, free festival will celebrate the Year of the Tiger (4708 on the lunar calendar). The festival entertainment includes lion and dragon dancers, Chinese acrobats, Chinese folk dance and music, martial arts demonstrations, and Asian Story Theater. A children’s activity area will feature Chinese crafts and calligraphy. Festival attendees can visit over 75 food and vendor booths.

 Willy Wonka

When: February 20th-28th

Where: Star Theater, Oceanside

What: Join Willy Wonka and his staff of Oompa Loompas as they lead ticket winners Charlie, the gluttonous Augustus Gloop, gum-chewing Violet Beauregarde, television junkie Mike Teevee, and spoiled-rotten Veruca Salt through a maze of chocolate rivers, life lessons, and laughs. Based on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, Willy Wonka is a scrumptious musical treat for the entire family.

 Bark in the Park

When: Sunday, February 21st 2:00 p.m.

Where: Balboa Park

What: 4th annual benefit concert for the San Diego Humane Society features animal-themed music on the giant Spreckels Organ and a special Pet Parade. Bring your pets and support animals in need. Free. All donations will go to the San Diego Humane Society.
