We all want to raise confident kids.  Those of us that have daughters are especially motivated to give them the confidence that they can do anything they set their mind to.  By now most of you know about Lindseys gold medal in the womens downhill at the Vancouver Olympics.   Watch the NY Times Magazine video to learn a little more about why Lindsey is a great role model for my daughter.

Lindsey Vonn – NY Times Magazine Video, February 07, 2010

Let’s See….She’s fast, fearless, and disciplined.  She is a great sport, close friends with her biggest rivals in World Cup and International Skiing; Maria Riesch and Julia Mancuso.  At the 2006 Olympics, 48 Hours after a 70 miles per hour crash, a helicopter trip to the hospital, and initial reports of a broken back, she came to the gate and competed in the downhill, finishing 8th.  She’s down to earth, and oh, by the way, the only woman on tour who competes using the larger mens skis.  Why?  Because the longer mens skis are faster, and she works hard to have the strength to handle them.

When asked is she is ever afraid of the speed, Lindsey says;  “I ski with my chin forward…I am constantly looking for more speed” and with a shrug and a smile “It’s my job”
