It is a tight turn and then down the hill. Facelogic Spa in Encinitas. If you want a facial, this IS the place. It is relaxing, the employees are highly educated on all skin types, the treatments are amazing and they have anti-gravity chairs! Sara is brilliant if you have any allergies or tough skin problems.  Their prices are very reasonable and as a club member it is great savings.

Green Velvet Soup

Prep Time: 10 Minutes  

Ready In: 1 Hour 30 Minutes

Cook Time: 1 Hour 20 Minutes Servings: 8

“Broccoli, split peas and spinach provide the green in this pureed soup.”

Ingredients:

1 onion, chopped

2 stalks celery, sliced

2 potatoes, diced

3/4 cup dried split peas

2 bay leaves

6 cups vegetable broth 2 zucchini, diced

1 head broccoli, chopped

1/2 teaspoon dried basil

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

4 cups chopped fresh spinach

Salt to taste

Directions:

1. In a large pot over medium heat, combine onion, celery, potatoes, split peas, bay leaves and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover and simmer 1 hour.

2. Remove the bay leaves and stir in the zucchini, broccoli, basil and black pepper. Simmer 20 minutes, until broccoli is tender.

3. Stir in spinach and remove from heat. Puree in a blender or food processor using an immersion blender. Salt to taste.

Push Up Challenge

How many push-ups can you do? 1 -5-10? The push-up is one of the simplest, yet most challenging and efficient exercise. It tones your chest, arms and core.  So drop and give me 5! Then repeat at the same time every day for the whole week and see how many reps you can increase. Now, do this 3-4 times a week for a month and really see the benefits you can achieve.

It’s the one you’ve been doing since your days in middle school. Lie down on the floor face down with your feet close together. Place your hands shoulder width apart. While maintaining a straight body, lower yourself down until your chest touches the ground. Push yourself up. That’s one rep.

Weekly Tips for February 21, 2011

Have you heard what is going on in our world? The riots, the death, destruction and terrible illnesses.  It really requires us to take a long look at what we have going on in our own personal lives and evaluate it as “really that bad?”  We have heard some terrible news about family friends sufferring from life ending diseases and financial ruin.  So, is it “really that bad” that you ate some cake over the weekend? Or you didn’t make it to the gym every day last week. The kids progress reports came out and they need to focus more in school?  Heading into March, it is time to re-evaluate our ideas, goals and resolutions for 2011.  We can acheive anything we put our energies to, but are those acheivements “attainable”? Meatless Dinner — Grilled Eggplant Provolone

4 small eggplants, cut in half lengthwise

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

Metabolism Boosting Morning Sundae

Instead of your usual breakfast, begin your day with this metabolism-boosting sundae to start burning fat in the morning. It’s high in protein and good fats and contains a bit of caffeine from matcha green tea to get your day off to an energized and refreshing start. It may be just what you need to get through your weight-loss plateau.

Ingredients

1/2 cup low-fat Greek yogurt

1 banana

1/2 cup strawberries

Unsweetened coconut, to taste

Ground flaxseed, to desired consistency

Matcha green tea powder, to taste (available at health food stores)

Directions

Combine all ingredients and enjoy.

Restore, Repair and Romantic Smoothie

Chocolate Berry Smoothie

1 cup sliced fresh strawberries or raspberries

1 med. banana, peeled (obviously?)

1/2 cup non fat milk (suggestion: plain Almond Milk)

1 scop chocolate-flavored whey protein powder

1/2 cup of ice

Add berries, banana and milk to blender; process for 30 seconds or until completely blended. Add protein powder; blend for 15 seconds. Add ice and blend until smooth. Serve immediately to your Valentine/Love!

305 cal.; 1 g fat; total carbs 47 g; 422 mg of potassium.

**This has enough potassium to restore nutrients loss dur to sweat and active muscle contractions. Also helps to control blood pressure and aiding in prevention of hypertension-related diseases.

**The combination of the whey protein powder and milk builds strong bones and muscles.

**Berries aid recovery and restore the body’s storage of glyceogen which is depleted during strenuous exercise.
