Exercise for June 21, 2010 — Squat Thrust

How to Do a Squat Thrust Calisthenics Exercise.

Fortify your muscle endurance by doing squat thrusts. This calisthenics movement works your lower limbs and core. Add squat thrusts to your daily exercise repertoire for a true whole body workout. The following steps will take you through a squat thrust repetition and get your heart pumping.


Step 1

Start from a standing position with your shoulders squared and your chest up and out. Hold your arms straight and at your sides, feet together.

Step 2

Place your hands shoulder width apart on the floor while bending your knees a little. You should be in a crouched position taking care not to drop your backside to your heels.

Step 3

Extend your legs behind you to a basic pushup position. This should be done as a fast squatting and thrusting backward motion.

Step 4

Bring your legs in front of you, under your torso, while bending your knees. This should be done as a fast, forward thrusting motion.

Step 5

Jump up to a standing position. Squat thrusts are meant to be done quickly and rhythmically without resting between repetitions. You can stand ¾ of the way up and then go on to the next repetition.

Step 6

Remember to inhale and exhale steadily while executing the squat thrust calisthenics exercise.

Tips & Warnings

Squat thrusts can be varied by alternating legs. You can do this by extending one leg forward as you bring the other leg back. Keep your back straight during the entire squat thrust. Ensure your hands are in a firm position when doing squat thrusts. Consult with your physician before beginning any exercise program.

Summer Fun Fruit Dip

Remember the good old days of summer with marshmellow fluff dip? Instead of making this sugar loaded dip this weekend for my fruit platters, we got innovative in the kitchen.

Very easy and simple: a tub of either fat free or low fat whipped cream (mildly defrosted). Add Raw Aguave Nectar and Fresh Cinnamon. Mix together and place in fridge to chill. That is it, easy and simple. The kids love it as well as adults.

Even considered making it with non-fat greek yogurt (vanilla with honey), but haven’t tried that one yet.  I will keep you updated if I make it.

Tips from RockIt Mom:  

1. GREEN-An update from last week regarding pre-packaged fruit and vegi platters, this weekend we hosted two more parties and the platters were prepared by RockIt Mom.  Even though it took some extra time chopping a whole watermelon, 2.5 flats of strawberries and lots of veggis, it was well worth it.  The produce was much fresher and better tasting and felt GREAT for serving personally prepared platters.  Suggestion: Take the time, put on your favorite high school CD and clean and chop away.  P.S. Don’t forget to use your Eat Cleaner Natural Produce Wash.  I would be lost without it.  You can check out more info on the right side of the site. (more…)

Free Summer Movies

Regal Theaters have been offerring free movies during the summer since 1991.  The movies are at 10 am on Tues & Wed. throughout the summer. Yes, they are FREE!!  A great way to beat the heat and to get some downtime before heading off to the beach, river, pool or amusement park.  To find a theater near you, go to Free Family Film Festival by Regal .

AMC Theaters have Kids Summer Camp where the admission is only $1.  Check out the theaters and movies close to you.  The movies at AMC are little more recent.  You can’t miss out on this. (more…)

Exercise of the Week — June 14, 2010

Alternating Dumbbell Row

*Do 6 to 8 repetitions

We are still working on our fabulous summer body.  This is a favorite for most women to burn the tummy fat, get the gorgeous arms and killer back.

Grab a pair of dumbbells, and stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and knees slightly bent. Bend at your hips, keeping your lower back naturally arched, and lower your torso until it’s almost parallel to the floor. Let the dumbbells hang at arm’s length from your shoulders. Now pull the dumbbell in your right hand to the side of your torso by raising your upper arm, bending your elbow and squeezing your shoulder blade toward your spine. As you lower that dumbbell, row the dumbbell in your left hand to the side your torso. That’s one repetition.

Continue to alternate sides.
